First Day of School Smiles

Students from across the district were all smiles to kick off the 2024-2025 school year on Sept. 5. As they arrived at their respective buildings, they were greeted by teachers and administrators. Students reconnected with familiar faces and made new friends as they were engaged in classroom activities throughout the day. The ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ Central School District looks forward to a great year ahead.

New Faces in Assistant Principal Roles

New Faces in Assistant Principal Roles thumbnail260476

The ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ Central School District is welcoming several new faces into assistant principal roles for the upcoming school year. At the Board of Education’s July 24 meeting, Tara Scully was approved as assistant principal of Samoset Middle School, Marc Mastropolo was named assistant principal of High School East and Melissa Cameron-Piccola at High School North.

Tara Scully has been a ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ Central School District employee since 2003. Most recently, she was a principal’s aide at Chippewa Elementary School, as well as a remedial math teacher and instruction coach.

Both Marc Mastropolo and Melissa Cameron-Piccola are ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ graduates and are eager to return to the district in their new roles. Mastropolo most recently served as a school social worker through Eastern Suffolk BOCES, whereas Cameron-Piccola served as a physical education teacher and summer school administrator in the Port Chester School District.

ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ Names New Administrator

Interim assistant superintendent for student support and administration Andrew Larson. thumbnail260466

The ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ Central School District named Andrew Larson as its interim assistant superintendent for student support and administration at its July 24 meeting. Mr. Larson will step into this new role on Aug. 1.

Mr. Larson’s administrative experience in ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ is extensive. Most recently, he served as principal of ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ High School North. In this role, Mr. Larson implemented the nine-period schedule to align with state mandates, designed new courses for students and redesigned procedures focusing on student and staff safety. He has also held assistant principal roles at both High School East and North, principalships at Hiawatha Elementary School and Sagamore Middle School and was formerly the district’s assistant personnel administrator.

Mr. Larson began his career in the ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ Central School District in 2002 as an elementary classroom teacher at Waverly Elementary School. He received his bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College, his master’s degree from St. John’s University and holds several professional building and district leader certifications.

While Mr. Larson enters this new role, Mr. James Nolan, a familiar face to the district, will serve as interim principal of ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ High School North for the 2024-2025 school year. Mr. Nolan had been ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ’s superintendent of schools before retiring in 2016.
